Golden Graduates Return Home
This year’s graduation was a beautiful event. Every year, along with the graduating class, we also celebrate our Golden Graduates. This year it was the Class of 1966. Our golden graduates took a trip down “memory lane” and had a wonderful time for three days here at Menaul School. To commemorate their time at Menaul School, the Class of 1966 donated and dedicated a bench. A ceremony was held during the morning of graduation.
We greatly enjoyed having our alumni come back home!

Every year awards are given out to students, alumni, faculty, and volunteers for their hard work here at Menaul School. The awards given include:
Sea La Luz Award Winner
Sea La Luz – “Let There be Light” – has been the motto of Menaul School for more than a century. The Sea La Luz Award recognizes students who exemplify community spirit, service, and leadership, making Menaul School a better place to learn and grow.
Among the seniors graduating in 2016, was student body president and this year’s ‘Sea La Luz’ Award Winner, Eric Nyase. During his four years at Menaul School, Eric has shown to be a gifted musician, a hardworking student, and a faithful leader. Along with this award, Eric Nyase was the Menaul School Class of 2016 Valedictorian. Eric will be attending Brown University in Rhode Island, this fall.
James A. Menaul Service to Education Award
James A. Menaul Service to Education Award honors Menaul School’s founder Reverend James Menaul, who founded several Presbyterian Churches in New Mexico and of course, Menaul School. This award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to education and has been an active supporter of Menaul School.
This year’s recipient was Keith Cass. Keith was born in Denver, Colorado and first came to Menaul School in 1991, where he taught band and choir. In 2000, Keith transitioned from music to “handy man” as he became Menaul School’s Facilities Manager where he oversees an experienced crew and keeps the facilities and grounds in pristine condition.
Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award
The Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award was established in 1999, to honor his memory. Each year, the award is presented to an alumnus or alumna of outstanding achievement and commitment to the values and ideals of Menaul School.
This year’s recipient was Armando Sandoval. Armando was born in Holman, New Mexico and graduated from Menaul School in 1956. Since 1990, Armando has used his expertise in translating valuable historical records and transcribing oral history audiotapes for the Menaul Historical Library.
