Global One-to-One – Host an International Student!

Global Ties Albuquerque

World Learning, with partners from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, Experiment Argentina, Experiment Chile, Global One to One, and Global Ties ABQ, is proud to administer the 2018 Youth Ambassadors Program for Argentina & Chile March 22 – April 2. Thirteen youth from South America (ages 15-18) and two adult mentors will gain the knowledge and leadership skills to become more engaged in their communities, and get to know the United States. Youth Ambassadors addresses three primary areas for the students: civic participation, appreciation of multi-ethnic diversity, and youth leadership. In addition, for the accompanying adult participants, it addresses adult leadership and mentoring.

The goals of the program are to promote mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and South America; prepare youth leaders to become responsible citizens and contributing members of their communities; influence the attitudes of the leaders of a new generation; and foster relationships among youth from different ethnic, religious, and national groups and create networks of hemispheric youth leaders, both within the participating countries and internationally.

The youth participants are selected based on academic achievement, community service, attendance at a public school and English language competency (inbound participants only). During their exchange, participants will focus on the program themes of civic education, leadership and community service and the subtheme specific to each program, through site meetings, experiential learning activities, leadership trainings, civic participation at the community level, mentoring by community, business and NGO leaders, volunteer programs, and homestays with local families (specific to each program location). Students will create project plans at the end of their community program, that each will implement in his/her own country.

If you are interested in being a part of this exciting opportunity, volunteer as a homestay host! Homestay hosts are required to provide the visiting participant a bed, breakfast, dinner, and transportation to the central meeting point (our office) each weekday. Each Sunday will be left as a free day for you to spend quality time with your guest.
