This December 14th, on a clear, crisp, starry evening Menaul School welcomed the community to its annual “Festival of Lights” Christmas celebration. As the bundled-up crowd gathered on the Menaul School Commons under the freshly decorated Christmas tree, our Reverend Takako Terino began the evening with a reading of John Bell’s Advent poem & and led us in prayer.
Choir and Drama teacher, Leon Eldridge, directed a collaboration of our Menaul School choir and the Second Presbyterian Church choir of Albuquerque in singing Carols such as: “What Child is This?”, “Silent Night”, “¡Oh santísimo, felicísimo”, and “Duermete, Niño Lindo”.
The crowd followed the luminarias path and made its way into the warm, comfy confines of Collie Refectory for the rest of the evening to enjoy hot drinks, tamales, and other goodies being sold by the Parent’s Association and to enjoy the instrumental performances by the Middle and Upper School. The students spirited playing of some holiday classics and a few jazzy numbers were a perfect way to get the gathering of our Menaul family into the Christmas mood.
As the students and family departed for the evening in preparation for finals, shopping, parties, and family gatherings in the days ahead, we wish to extend a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays from our Menaul family to yours!
