Susan was born in New York City and raised on Long Island. She met and married her husband at Marble Collegiate Church in New York. Together, they moved to New Mexico in 1976. They raised two boys in Albuquerque, both of whom live in the northwest.
She worked for 28 years in early childhood programs in Albuquerque, as the Program Director. She also has worked with programs in several Presbyterian churches within the Presbytery of Santa Fe. She has been a member of numerous church-related organizations. Currently, she is part of the Mission Networking Committee of the Presbytery. She is the chair of the board of Presbyterian Medical Services and recently joined the board of Catholic Charities.
Susan retired in 2014, but continues teaching at CNM and consulting with early childhood programs working on quality improvement through the New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children. She has been an active elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, a member of the Christian Education Committee. She teaches Sunday school and is active in the Presbyterian Women group. She explains she is committed to working with the underserved, racial justice, immigrant rights, child advocacy and women’s issues.
