Menaul Athletics Middle School teams stepped into the spotlight this week. Read all about it in this edition of On the Prowl (Panther Athletics – Week 10)!

Middle School hoopsters make championship game

Menaul’s mid-school athletes participated in the Albuquerque Parochial and Independent Athletic League post-season tournaments last week, playing with great aplomb and fire.

Basketball: Playing the APIAL Bracket B, the Menaul 1 mid-school squad made it all the way to the championship game on Friday, May 14, at Bosque School.

Riding a three-game winning streak, the Panthers went up against Oak Grove Academy 1. The Menaul mid-schoolers gave the Owls a battle before falling 40-38 on a last-second shot in the fourth quarter. Eighth-grader Brayden E. led Menaul with 14 points, while fellow eighth-graders Gaucin G. and Zachariah T. added nine points each.

Playing in Bracket B, the Panthers opened against Holy Ghost Catholic School 1 on Wednesday, May 12, at home. Menaul grounded the Eagles 42-33 to advance.

Playing Hope Christian 1 on Thursday, May 13, at St. Mary’s School, the Panthers again showed grit and determination in downing the Huskies 46-38 to claim a spot in the championship game.

Menaul 1 finished the season 6-5.

Playing in Bracket E, the Menaul 2 mid-school team fell in the opening round to Albuquerque Christian School at home on Wednesday, May 12. The Panthers finished the season 0-5.

Volleyball: The Menaul 1 squad played in Bracket D of the APIAL post-season tournament and fell to Sandia Prep 2 on the Sundevils’ home court on Monday, May 10.

Spring sports start this week

The Menaul School Upper School boys and girls track and field squads travel to Estancia for the opening meet of the 2021 season today (Wednesday, May 19). 

The Panther boys and girls then co-host a pair of meets at home with Santa Fe’s Academy of Technology and the Classics on Saturday, May 22, and May 29.

The Menaul/Oak Grove co-op baseball team begins its season today at 5:30 pm against the Cleveland High Freshman team in Rio Rancho.

The Panthers then travel to Questa for a matchup against the Wildcats on Friday. First pitch is at 3 pm. MOG then takes to the road to play Bosque School on Tuesday at 4 pm.
