McCann represents well at State Cross County Meet

Fresh off her top 10 finish in the District championship meet, sophomore Makayla M. ran very well as the lone representative of the Panther girls cross country squad at the Class A-2A State Championship Meet on Friday at Albuquerque Academy.

Makayla finished with a time of 23:54.79 and finished in 26th place, which placed her right in the middle of the 50-plus runners.

Football in Carrizozo Friday to play Cloudcroft High

The Panther football squad finishes up the regular season with a neutral site 8-man match-up against Cloudcroft at Carrizozo High School on Friday at 4 pm.

Last weekend, a shortage of healthy players caused Menaul (0-3) to cancel its home game last Friday against Magdalena. The Cloudcroft Bears are 0-3 this season with losses to Mesilla Valley Christian, Mescalero Apache, and Tatum. Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season.

Next up: Friday, April 2, Menaul vs. Cloudcroft at Carrizozo High School, at 4 pm. Streaming link: (Facebook Live – FREE).

Volleyball squads finish season

The Menaul varsity volleyball concluded their seasons last Thursday with District 2-2A match ups against Monte del Sol School in Santa Fe.

The Panther varsity gave the Dragons a fight – forcing extra points in the second set – but ultimately fell 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, and 25-19. Menaul finishes the season 1-10 overall, 0-4 in district play.

Among those playing their final game in the Red and Black were seniors Celeste A., Natalie H., and Draven G.

The Panther junior varsity (2-6, 1-3 in district) finished their season on Thursday, March 23, with a 2-1 win over Mesa Vista on the road.

Soccer wins second match of the season

The Oak Grove/Menaul/Evangel Christian combined boys soccer team dropped three decisions last week, including a pair of District 1 A-3A matches.

On Thursday, March 25, the Owls traveled to Santa Fe for an out-of-district fight with St. Michael’s. The Horsemen scored four goals in each half to prevail 8-2.

Unfortunately, OGMEC found the going even rougher at home on Saturday, March 27. Visiting Sandia Prep peppered the Owl defense with shots and came away with a 9-2 victory.

This week, OGMEC matched up with Bosque School in a league lock-up. The Owl defense was a little more stout than the week before, but the Bobcats found the net four times to win 4-1.

Next up: OGMEC concluded their season this afternoon (Thursday, April 1) on the road against District foe Rehoboth Christian. Check next week’s On The Prowl blog to find out the results.
