Over one hundred years ago, Menaul School started what would become a cornerstone of high school sports in New Mexico and beyond–an American Football team. Menaul’s legacy of football greatness has made an impact on Albuquerque area high school sports.

This important legacy was recently highlighted by KRQE Sports reporter, Bradley Benson. Menaul community members with a long history of involvement with the football program were interviewed for the feature as well. Said 1959 State Champion Dan Sandoval:

“My dad came, my brother came, my sister was the first homecoming queen in Menaul in 1948,” said Sandoval. “It’s just tradition for families, generation after generation. We’re proud of the school and proud of everything that it taught us. This is a real special place.”

From the teams first inception in 1904 to today, Menaul Panther Football has been an important part of the diverse fabric of Menaul School and New Mexico as a whole.
