Menaul School is proud to announce the establishment of its first-ever Fencing program, marking an exciting expansion of athletic opportunities for its students. To lead this program, the school has named Olympic medalist Courtney Hurley as Head Coach and Program Director.
Hurley, a decorated U.S.A fencer and bronze medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, brings world-class experience and a passion for developing young athletes. A three-time Olympian, she has competed at the highest levels of international fencing and now turns her focus to inspiring the next generation of student-athletes at Menaul.
To strengthen the program and provide expert training resources, Menaul School has partnered with Duke City Fencing, Albuquerque’s premier fencing club. Which is owned and operated by Hurley. This collaboration will bring access to advanced equipment, facilities, and a broader fencing community, ensuring students develop their skills in a supportive, competitive environment.
“Menaul School is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with USA Fencing and the incredible opportunity to have three-time Olympian and Bronze medalist Courtney Hurley lead our fencing program,” said Dr. Julie Bean, Head of School at Menaul. “We are not just building a premier fencing program, we’re creating a pathway for the next generation of Olympic champions preparing them for admission to the nation’s top NCAA universities.”
Menaul’s fencing program will be open to both middle and upper school students, with training sessions beginning this fall. The school hopes to build a lasting tradition of excellence as it introduces one of the world’s oldest and most storied sports to its community.
“I am excited to join the Menaul School team as the inaugural coach of this groundbreaking fencing program,” said Coach Hurley. “The program is structured similarly to college-level programs, with 5-day-a-week training during the school day, ensuring that students receive the dedication and rigor they need to succeed.”
