Did you know that Menaul School is Albuquerque’s oldest school? That’s just one of the interesting things participants learned watching the Menaul School Virtual Birthday Celebration, which kicked off our 125th anniversary celebrations on Friday, January 29!

The live Zoom/Facebook event featured a greeting from Mayor Keller and a number of wonderful adult and student speakers. Overall the video event provided glimpses into our school’s illustrious heritage, our present-day mission, and our exciting vision for the Menaul School’s future. Altogether, the whole event of this was capped off by an inspiring birthday video featuring the entire student body! (Our students are awesome!)

“Oh my goodness, the celebration was so amazing!”

Theresa Acker Sherman, Class of 1987

The event has been viewed by more than 500 people and serves as the kick-off for a year’s worth of 125th Birthday celebrations designed to raise awareness, build Panther pride and engage our community further in supporting this historic, visionary mission.

Upcoming celebration events include; Menaul School History by the Decades – monthly, online, educational, and social events beginning Thursday, Feb. 25, and a Walking History Tour featuring our very own students in character beginning Friday, May 7 (Directed by Mr. Leon Lake and Ms. Marian Bock).

Menaul Friends: I was impressed with the 125th Celebration and grateful for all the persons and creative beautiful expressions of love, learning, memories and hopes conveyed. At the opening it was something to have a Roman Catholic priest highlighted, Padre Martinez of Taos. I know and appreciate the fact that his 13 foot bronze statue dedicated just a few years ago in the Historic Town Square, Taos, N, and the prayer was prepared and offered by your former Menaul President, Rev Dr. Edmundo Vasquez, the Padre’s great, great great grandson on his
