The Menaul School Upper School boys and girls track and field athletes competed at the final meet of the season, the District 2-AA District meet at Estancia High School on Friday, June 11.

Nine Panther girls track team members qualified for Friday’s Class 2A State Championship Track and Field Meet at UNM’s University Stadium, which begins with field events at 11 am.

The 4x100m relay team of Mikayla S., Anjelica H., Vanessa D., and Charli B. qualified with a time of 59.24 seconds, while the 4x200m relay team of Mia L., Elaina O., Anjelica H., and Vanessa D.

At the District 2-AA meet in Estancia on Friday, June 4, Mikayla S. brought home the most hardware. Mikayla placed first in the 200-meter dash for a gold medal with a time of 31.04 seconds and second in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles to win silver medals.

Charli B. earned silver, taking second place in the high jump, clearing a height of 4 feet-4 inches. She also finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and long jump events.

Diana O-C. took second place in the javelin throw with a toss of 25 feet-9 inches to earn a silver medal.

Baseball season a success overall

The Menaul/Oak Grove co-op baseball team entered the final week of the regular season with a chance to finish with a winning record, but alas it was not meant to be.

The Panthers traveled to Estancia on Wednesday and came away with a 13-0 loss to the host Bears. M/OG finishes the shortened 2021 season 3-4 – an accomplishment all its own considering that the team was forced to abandon its return to prep baseball in 2020.

The Panthers started their 2021 campaign with a 17-0 loss in Rio Rancho to the Cleveland freshman team on May 19. But M-OG quickly bounded back for a win, beating Questa 22-11 in Questa on May 21.

The Panthers then fell 17-7 to Bosque on May 25 and Rehoboth Christian 17-4 on May 27. M/OG then avenged their loss to Bosque School, taking a 12-1 victory over the Bobcats on June 1. The Panthers were ambushed in their next outing, a 22-3 loss at Sandia Prep on June 8. M/OG then picked up a win via forfeit over Estancia on June 10 to place the Panthers at 3-3 for the season before going into their showdown finale with their regional rivals, the Bears.
