Menaul Athletics’ Upper School 2021-22 sports season ended last Friday at the University of New Mexico Track and Field complex as the Panther girls competed in the Class 2A State Track and Field Championship Meet. Panther girls compete well at 2A Championships

Seven Menaul School Upper School girls track and field athletes represented the school on Friday, June 18, in the Class 2A State track and field meet.

In individual events, freshman Mikayla S. did well, placing eighth overall in two events – the 100-meter hurdles (finishing second in her heat with a time of 19.41 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (finishing in 19.41 seconds and finishing sixth in her heat.) Mikayla also took ninth in the 300-meter dash with a time of 29.22 seconds but placed second in her heat. 

In the 1600-meter run, sophomore Makayla M. finished 10th with her best time of the season, 6:52.11. Mikayla M. topped her previous best time by 16 seconds at the State meet!

Sophomore Diana O.-C. placed tenth in shot put with a throw of 27-feet, 11.25-inches – improving on her personal best this season by over one foot.

In the relay races, the 4×100-meter team of Mikayla S., sophomores Vanessa D. and Anjelica H., and freshman Charli B. finished sixth in their heat with a time of 57.22 seconds, dropping two seconds from their previous best time.

The 4x200m relay team ran of Anjelica H., Vanessa D. and freshmen Mia L. and Elaina O. finished with a time of 2:13.67

“Everyone on this team is an underclassman, so the future looks very good for the next few years!” says Upper School track coach Jim Doyle.

The 2021-22 Upper School season begins with football hosting Tatum on Friday, August 27 at 7 pm and volleyball hosting Jemez Valley on Tuesday, August 31 at 5 pm. Stay tuned for middle school schedules!
