My Story
My name is Sandra Deale. For the last 13 years, I have been working as a Dorm Parent at Menaul School. In 2013, I was promoted to Lead Dorm Parent. 2022 brought another promotion to Assistant to Residential Life. My charges have been up to 61 domestic and international high school students, ranging in ages 14 to 20, both male and female. How did I end up here? My son is 2011 alumni. In 2010, while attending one of his football games, I was asked “So, how would you like to be a relief dorm parent?” I replied, “can the money go towards my son’s tuition?” I was all in. I covered the weekends. I fell in love with the kids, they called me mom. The following school year, I was offered a full-time position. I have not looked back since.
Why Menaul?
This is the easiest/hardest career, but the reward of watching and seeing the kids grow into young adults is worth everything. My job duties include planning weekend activities, being a chauffeur, and being a nurturer when needed as well as knowing when to be a disciplinarian. I live in the dorms 24/7. I enjoy working with teens. I find it challenging to help them grow both in the classroom as well as out. I try to teach them how to handle life head on and not to hide from issues as they arise.
About Me
In my off-duty time, I enjoy spending as much time with my 3 beautiful granddaughters doing outdoor activities. I enjoy camping, hiking, and traveling with my two dogs, Lilly and Kendall.
