My Story

I’m currently working on my second book and trying to learn French. This summer, my partner and I will be traveling to Portugal.

In my free time I love to travel, cook Italian food, listen to music, work in the garden, read, and spend time with friends.

What I Love About Menaul School

I love Menaul School’s sweet campus with its beautiful trees and green lawns, the extremely welcoming and supportive community, and the diversity of the student body.

When students share their interpretation and understanding of the texts we examine together, I’m always excited to hear a new insight. I love watching students grow as they wrestle with big and sometimes challenging issues in writing.

I love that my students are kind, funny, open, engaged, and bright.

What We Are Working On In Class…

In 10th grade English, we are reading The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. One thing we’ve done: we learned about eponyms (e.g., “Kafkaesque”), and we made a bubble map of different Kafkaesque terms. We also located imagery in the text and began filling out a chart to keep track of the imagery, and they are explaining in writing how each image is “Kafkaesque.”

In 12th grade English we are reading The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. We have been writing about all of the characters, and we are spending time exploring the different themes in the novel (beauty, ugliness, race, self worth, etc.).

Students are working on a presentation right now in which they analyze one specific character in relation to a theme of the book (the character of Cholly Breedlove and the cycle of violence).

In Film Analysis, we just began a new film, but the last two we worked on were Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and Christian Petzold’s Phoenix. Students completed a PowerPoint presentation comparing and analyzing common elements of the two films.

In AP English we are working on Shakespeare. We read his sonnets, and the students completed a project in which they took lyrics from a pop song and “translated” or rewrote them in the form of Shakespearean sonnets. Now we are reading Twelfth Night, and we are talking about the characters and having fun reading aloud/acting out some of the play during class.

Ms. Bunn has a BA English, and MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Hunter College in New York City.
