Volleyball starts season at home

The Menaul volleyball team started their shortened season Tuesday, March 2, at home in “The Panther Pit,” hosting Legacy Academy in a District 2-2A matchup. Both the Panthers’ varsity and junior varsity were competitive against the Silverbacks but ultimately fell.

The Menaul varsity squad fell 3-1 while our JV team lost to Legacy 2-1. Evangel’s junior varsity squad included several of their varsity girls, so cheer to the Panther JV for winning a set!

Both the Menaul varsity and JV now start the season 0-1 and 0-1 2 in District 2-2A play.

Football kicks off at Fort Sumner Friday night

The Menaul football team travels to Fort Sumner to play the Foxes on Friday night with kickoff slated for 6 p.m.

The game will be streamed on the Rex6 website beginning at 6 p.m. this Friday, March 5. There is a $10 streaming fee for access to the game.

The Panthers play the first of their two home games for the season on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. Tomlinson Field against Melrose in a rematch of last season’s 8-man semifinal game. The Menaul-Melrose game will be streamed via YouTube by the school.

Due to the shortened season, District 2 8-man teams will not compete for a district championship as all district play, and the state football playoffs will not be contested this season.

Menaul will play traditional rivals and District 2 foes Magdelena at home on March 26 but will not play their other District 2 rival, Mountainaire, this season.

And keep a look out for On The Prowl next week and every week!
