Our 4th Annual Passport to World-Class Education Gala was a resounding success! Donors, alumni, parents, staff, faculty, and friends of Menaul School attended the sold-out event. Fifteen live auction items and 31 silent auction items were sold, after being donated by generous individuals and businesses in the months leading up to the event. It was an evening celebrating Menaul School, with alumni and student speakers, Moroccan cuisine, and beautiful, brightly colored decorations on campus in our own Collie Refectory.
One major highlight of the evening was special guest Mistress of Ceremonies Ariel Tweto, one of the stars of Discovery Channel’s Flying Wild Alaska and Travel Channel’s True Alaska. The gala began with a cocktail hour, where attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic performance by the Menaul School Jazz Band and singer, junior Luci Astorga and bid in the silent auction on items, including pieces of fine art, beautiful handmade jewelry, gift certificates, and themed baskets filled to the brim! This was followed by dinner, where Menaul School Alumnus and teacher, Josh Baca and student Santiago Henry spoke about what Menaul School means to them. Then the live auction began, facilitated by Doty’s Auction Service and featuring Native American artwork, vacation getaways, hunting trips, and more.
A huge thank you to our donors, gala attendees, and volunteers. Because of you, we were able to raise over $69,000 for our Financial Aid/Scholarship Funds.
Don’t forget, Graduation is on May 26th! Come support the Class of 2018 as they receive their hard-earned diplomas in Hart Park at 10:00 a.m.
Now Accepting Nominations for the 2018 Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award
The 2018 Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award will be presented at Menaul School Honors Night, Wednesday, May 16th at 6:00 p.m. and recognized at Graduation. All alumni are encouraged to submit a nomination for an alumnus or alumna whose life exemplifies the values of Menaul School. Submissions must be received electronically or postmarked by April 25th to be considered for the 2018 award.
During Mr. Donaldson’s 37-year tenure at Menaul School, many young men and women were beneficiaries of an academic, spiritual, and sportsmanship education that led many alumni to illustrious careers in law, medicine, the arts, science, government, the ministry, and entrepreneurship. Students respected his straight-forward manner, his optimism about the future of Menaul School and his deep concern for the success of each student. Mr. Harper C. Donaldson exemplified humility in leadership and in the striving for an education for life. The financial status of student applicants, their race, and their religion was never a question as long as a student made a sincere effort to learn in a Christian environment. Mr. Donaldson embodied the Menaul School spirit – ¡Sea la Luz! – making it possible for the light of knowledge, respect for the dignity of all God’s people, and an awareness of one’s responsibility to serve others, and to touch the lives of all who knew him.
The Harper C. Donaldson Outstanding Alumni Award was established in 1999 to honor his memory. Each year, the award is presented to an alumnus or alumna of outstanding achievement and commitment to the values and support of Menaul School.
