Before joining Menaul School in January of 2014, Ray acquire a B.S. and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He recently obtained his teaching certificate from CNMU and has a teaching licence in New Mexico. He is retired from the US Navy after serving on submarines and shipyards. He retired from Sandia National Laboratory where he designed nuclear reactor control systems and weapon parts. He also worked in a start up as a test engineer for River Ben Nuclear Station, a 4,000 MW boiling water reactor and the Fast Flux Test Reactor, a liquid metal breeder reactor.
Ray says his greatest accomplishment has been raising his two children to be generous, kind, and self-sufficient people. One of his children is a science teacher in an alternative school and the other is a VP with Goldman-Sachs.
Ray is the Treasurer of a non-profit group that trains people and dogs to work with therapists and visit schools and hospitals to improve people’s lives. He decided to teach because he felt being retired was boring. He tells us he always wanted to teach, so that he could help guide students with a technical bent, but don’t really know what scientist and engineers really do and what background they will need to pursue a technical career.
